President’s top picks for the speakership of the 8th parliament: Nii Ayikoi Otoo, Freddy Blay and Frank Davies.
The battle to select a new Speaker of Parliament to spearhead the 8th parliament has long commenced.
Reportedly, three big names have popped up and are currently under review by His excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. They are Nii Ayikoi Otoo, Freddie Blay and Frank Davies.
Nii Ayikoi Otoo, Esq. is a legal practitioner and Ghana’s high commissioner to Canada.
He has been mentioned as a target for the office of speaker of parliament in the 8th parliament, come January 2021. He has served as an Attorney General and Minister of Justice under former President John Agyekum Kufour.
He is an NPP faithful and has unsuccessfully contested the Krowor Constituency for two times. Nii Ayikoi Otoo is a man of impeccable character and deed, highly respected by all.
Freddie Blay has equally appeared on the list of names for the speakership of the 8th parliament.
He is the National Chairman of the NPP and the first deputy speaker of parliament. Freddie Blay has served in the 3rd, 4th and 5th parliaments as MP for the Ellembelle Constituency in the Western Region. He is a man of remarkable integrity and has entered the good books of many Ghanaians.
Renowned Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Professor Gyampo, has rained praises on Freddie Blay in a recent post.
He stated that Blay is an affable man loved by members of the NPP and the NDC alike. Professor Gyampo also touched on the Techiman South Constituency election saga, nominating Freddie Blay as the best bet to spearhead the well balanced 8th parliament as Right Honourable Speaker, come January 2021.
Frank Davies is a lawyer and former President of the Greater Accra Ghana Bar Association. He is currently the board chairman of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA). He is a strong NPP member and a native of the Greater Accra Region. Lawyer Frank Davies is held in great regard by all who know him.
All things being equal, come January 6, 2021, the New Patriotic Party will for the third time make their choice of speakership from the Greater Accra Region, after Peter Ala Adjetey and Professor Aaron Mike Ocquaye, or will for the first time settle on a Speaker of Parliament from the Western Region of Ghana.
