Ken Ofori-Atta’s travel for medical assistance sparks controversies
Some Ghanaians have expressed their discontent over the Finance Minister designate, Ken Ofori Atta’s travel to the United States of America to seek proper health care.
This has sparked quite a number of controversies as most people particularly those in the camp of the New Democratic Congress (NDC) have questioned the Akufo Addo government on why they did not do same for Former President the late Jerry John Rawlings before his demise.
Nana Baffoe Ba, an NDC activist reacting to the latest controversy wrote on social media “PAPA J as former president was sent to Korle Bu and die subsequently. Ken Ofori-Atta as minister, yet to be approved is flown to the US for treatment. Ah well!”
This debate occurred after the Ministry of Finance revealed on Sunday February 14, 2021 that the Minister of Finance designate Ken Ofori-Attah will be travelling to the United States of America (USA) for further health treatment following his previous recovery form the deadly covid 19.
“The Ministry of Finance wishes to inform the general public and stakeholders that Mr. Ken-Ofori Atta, the representative of H.E the President at the Ministry of Finance and Minister designate for Finance will travel to the United States of America today for a special medical review” they added that “After recovering from COVID-19 last December, Mr. Ofori-Atta has had medical complications which doctors advise, require further interventions not currently available in Ghana. He is expected to be away for two weeks. Mr. Ofori-Atta was scheduled to appear before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Tuesday 16th February 2021. The leadership of Parliament has been duly notified for a new date to be fixed upon his return”.
