“Death threats won’t stop me” – Investigative Journalist, Manasseh Azuri Awuni
Manasseh Azuri Awuni, Ghana’s popular investigative journalist has revealed that the many death threats received from corrupt politicians and their fans will not slow him down or stop him from his fight against corruption.
This comes after he was allegedly threatened for writing an article about the deficiencies of Ghana’s electoral process. The said article was entitled, “ERRORtoral Commission and Akufo-Addo’s coup d’état”
The article discussed some challenges and irregularities of the 2020 elections of which the incumbent party won the presidential race.
There have also been a lot of contentions around various parliamentary seats across the country. He also wrote about the various violent breakouts since the announcement of the presidential elections by the electoral commissioner, Mrs Jean Mensah.
Manasseh Azure Awuni, was also the man behind the “Contract for sale” documentary which exposed the chairman of the National Procurement Board for an alleged involvement in “whole sale” of various government contracts to companies and persons who were either unqualified or had not gone through the proper procurement process.
In the documentary, while undercover, Manasseh and his crew were able to procure a road construction contract from a company that was supposedly own by the head of the Procurement Board of the country.
Apparently, the head of the National Procurement Board had awarded the contracts to his own company which was in turn sold to other companies at a fee.
It appears some politicians and their fans are more than unhappy about his investigations and will want to get him out of the way. He has therefore received many death threats from various sources, according to him. Manasseh however, does not seem intimidated in any way.
This would not be the first time an investigative journalist has received death threats. The likes of Anas Aremeyaw Anas and others have received similar threats which even led to the death of one Ahmed Suale an associate of Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
We do not know whether the threats on Manesseh is credible or not, but I guess we have to wait and see.
